Three white soldiers and three black crows

Japanese candlesticks · Beginner → Intermediate · 5 min read
You will learn to
  • Steady takeovers
  • Spotting exhaustion in the third candle

The shape

soldiers

Three strong candles in a row in one direction, each closing near its extreme and beyond the previous close. Three white soldiers after a low or a base show a steady takeover by buyers; three black crows after a high show sellers taking over.

Warning signs

  • The third candle is much smaller, or has a long upper wick: the advance is tiring (sometimes called an advance block).
  • After a long run, three big candles can be exhaustion — the last buyers chasing.
  • They are extended by nature: entering after the third candle often means a poor reward to the nearest stop. Waiting for a pullback is common.
